Lip Fillers are Different for Everyone

I’m just going to come right out and say it: Lip fillers don’t mean you will look like Kylie Jenner. Lip injections - and the amount of filler - is different for everyone.

Many clients of mine want plumper, more shapely lips but shy away when I mention fillers. I can’t say I blame them. After all, Instagram makes lips look like floatation devices. But I’m here to ease those worries because if you work with the right injector, you won’t get crazy results. You’ll get the lips perfect for your unique face.

Let me explain…

Lips fillers do more than just plump lips

People hear lip filler and instantly assume it’s for just that: filling. Let’s break that misconception. You can get your lips softened and shaped without looking like a balloon!

FDA-approved dermal fillers have infinite uses. These versatile injectables can enhance your lips, define your chin and jawline, contour your profile, and even reduce the visible signs of aging. But we’re here to talk about your pout.

Of course, fillers can plump and enhance the volume of your lips but they can also:

  • Diminish vertical lip lines

  • Smooth out lines around the mouth

  • Lift the corners of the mouth

  • Improve symmetry of the lips

  • Create definition of lips’ outer lines

  • Contour the cupid's bow

Neurotoxins can also be used to augment lips

Just as dermal fillers have infinite uses, so do neurotoxins, like Botox®. Depending on your unique lip goals and facial structure, you may not need lip fillers at all.

Instead, you could benefit from neurotoxin injections around the mouth. For example, Botox can be used to lift the corners of your mouth.

What lip shape is best?

Many patients ask me this: what lip shape is prettiest? Honestly, it’s impossible to say because ideal lip shape depends on your unique facial features. There are many types of lips and only some types can handle ample amounts of filler.

What I’m saying is that some lips are built to be plumped up and others benefit from definition and shaping. Your filler goals need to be realistic - but a professional injector will help you set these expectations.

In short, a “good” pair of lips should be proportioned and well balanced. Some patients want to define the Cupid’s bow to create a heart-shaped pout, while others prefer a rounder, puffy lip (think Angelina Jolie).

How to know if your injector is the best choice

When patients want their lips done, you need to find an injector who can deliver the desired results. But, more importantly, your injector should be willing to say NO.

There are plenty of nightmare stories caused by injectors who don’t listen to what each patient needs or don’t know how to address different lip shapes. To avoid the “trout pout” or “duck face,” it’s vital to find a good injector.

Here are your signs to RUN away from an injector. If they:

🚩 Don’t spend time studying your unique face and features

🚩 Don’t listen to you and your beauty goals before diving right into the procedure

🚩 Automatically agree to anything - it should be a conversation about what’s best for you

🚩 Don’t guide you through the injections so you feel comfortable at all times

🚩 Don’t talk to you about aftercare to ensure the best results
